Uzbekistan takes part in the 15th International Meeting of the World Pharmacopoeias in New Delhi
On 4–8 February 2025, State Pharmacopoeia representatives at the 15th IMWP in New Delhi discussed reference standards, the Three Rs concept and the prospect of PDG membership.
From 4 to 8 February 2025, the 15th International Meeting of the World Pharmacopoeias (IMWP) was held in New Delhi, India, jointly organized by The International Pharmacopoeia of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC). Uzbekistan was represented by Kh.K. Djalilov, Head of the State Pharmacopoeia Development Department, and A.O. Zaynidinov, Chief Specialist of the department.
The IMWP platform brought together leading representatives of the WHO regional and national pharmacopoeias, international organizations, experts from various countries around the world, and members of the Government of India. Participation gave Uzbekistan's pharmacopoeial authority first-hand insight into the issues at the top of the global pharmacopoeial agenda.
The meeting's agenda addressed a range of priority issues in ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical products:
- related impurities in pharmacopoeial monographs and test methods, together with reference standards;
- approaches to the use of hazardous chemical substances;
- the phased reduction and replacement of animal testing in line with the Three Rs concept;
- the future approach of the IMWP during public health emergencies.
As part of the international cooperation activities, a meeting was held with Dr Hikoichiro Maegawa, Director of the Office of Review Management, Division of Pharmacopoeia and Standards for Drugs at Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA). Uzbekistan's work on developing its national pharmacopoeia was highly commended, and the proposal for the State Pharmacopoeia to join the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group (PDG) in the future received support.
Taking part in the New Delhi meeting marked another important step in strengthening the cooperation of Uzbekistan's State Pharmacopoeia with the global pharmacopoeial community and in advancing harmonization with the leading international pharmacopoeias.
