The Development System of the State Pharmacopoeia

The State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Uzbekistan is developed through an extensive, multi-tier system. It was established by Order No. 115 of the Ministry of Health, dated 3 May 2019, and engages around 200 scientists and highly qualified specialists from the pharmaceutical and related fields. This breadth of scientific expertise ensures that the national pharmacopoeia meets contemporary international requirements.

Governing and coordinating bodies

The process of compiling the Pharmacopoeia is directed and coordinated by three principal bodies:

• Editorial Board — sets the strategic direction of the system and grants final approval of each edition.
• Editorial Council — reviews the pharmacopoeial articles and coordinates the work on them.
• Secretariat — distributes monographs among the working groups and organizes scientific, technical and editorial corrections.

Specialized expert commissions

The scientific rigour of the pharmacopoeial articles is ensured by eleven specialized expert commissions, each responsible for a particular scientific and methodological field:

• Physical research methods and analytical instruments;
• Physico-chemical research methods;
• Authenticity of medicinal products and quantitative determination;
• Methods for determining biological activity;
• Biological preparations and microbiological research;
• Reagents and analytical solutions;
• Medical devices and packaging materials;
• Pharmaceutical research;
• Pharmaceutical and technological research;
• Pharmacognostic research;
• Statistical analysis and mathematical processing methods.

Working groups

The hands-on work — drafting, harmonizing and refining the pharmacopoeial articles — is carried out by dedicated working groups. Their activities involve research institutes, higher education institutions and manufacturing enterprises, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
